Summer Dog Grooming Hacks

Does your canine buddy enjoy rolling around in the dust and dirt? If so, you may be spending a bit more time keeping him clean at this time of year. Read on as a London, ON vet lists some summer dog grooming tips.

Go Outdoors

Take advantage of the warm weather, and bring your pup outside for his grooming sessions. That extra fur will just blow away. In fact, local birds may even use it for nests!

Train Fido

Keep a bath mat outside the door you take Fido in and out of. These are quite absorbent, and are great for helping clean your pup’s paws before he tracks mud inside.

Doggy Ice Cream

You can pick up some ice cream for Fido in pet stores, or make your own. This is a great snack to distract him with while you’re clipping his claws! It’s also a wonderful summer post-bath treat.

Butter It Up

Dogs can get sunburns, just like we can. They can also burn their paws on hot surfaces at this time of year. Coconut oil or coconut butter can be a great moisturizer for Fido’s nose and paws! Keep some on hand for your canine buddy. Going swimming? Put some in your pet’s beach bag. Those sensitive paw pads will be very delicate after they’ve been in the water. Your pooch will be quite susceptible to burns and blisters after going swimming.

Keep The Car Ready

Get a throw blanket for your car. This won’t stop Fido from shedding, but it will at least help trap a lot of that fur and dirt. It’s also a good idea to keep towels and pet wipes handy for quick cleanups.

Swimming Fun

Does your pooch like swimming? Brush Fido before you take him to your favorite lake or pool. Getting that dead fur and dander out of your canine companion’s coat now will make it easier for you to brush him out after he’s been swimming. You’ll also want to rinse your pet down after he’s been swimming, to get that dead fur, dust, salt, chlorine, and/or sand out of his coat.

Hit The Salon

Of course, the easiest way to keep Fido clean is to take him to the groomers. Make him an appointment today!
