New Year’s Resolutions for Pet Owners

Happy New Year! As 2016 moves into the rear-view mirror, many of us are starting out the new year by making resolutions and setting new goals for themselves. If you have a pet, why not include your furry pal in your resolutions? Read on as a London, ON vet lists some great resolutions for pet parents.

Keep Your Pet Amused

Dogs and cats are very curious and playful. Fido and Fluffy will get bored and restless if they have nothing to do when you’re gone. Playing offers pets beneficial mental stimulation. It also helps keep them moving and active, and allows them to burn off excess energy that may otherwise be channeled into destructive behavior. Keep your pet’s toy box filled with safe, suitable playthings, and spend a few minutes a day playing with your furkid.

Provide Proper Veterinary Care

Pets need proper veterinary care in order to truly stay healthy, happy, and safe. Routine examinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery are all very important. It’s also crucial for you to keep up on your four-legged pal’s vaccinations and parasite control products. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.

Offer Little Comforts

Fido and Fluffy can’t talk, so it’s up to you to make sure your furry buddy is comfortable and content. Provide your pet with soft beds, stimulation and exercise, and lots of TLC. Good grooming is also important, while belly rubs and ear scritches can help dogs and cats feel safe, loved, and secure.

Spend Time With Your Pet

Fido and Fluffy need to feel loved to truly be happy. You’re the apple of your furry companion’s eyes, and the center of their world. Spend some quality time with your little buddy every day. Purrs and tail wags are, in our opinion, very precious gifts!

Give Your Pet Great Food

Proper nutrition is a key part of your pet’s overall health and well-being. Just like people, dogs and cats are much healthier if they are eating a high-quality, nourishing diet. And while it’s great to pamper your four-legged friend with special snacks on occasion, be careful not to go overboard with fatty treats. Ask your vet for recommendations, including serving sizes and suitable snacks.
