Resolutions For People With Feisty Kittens

Happy New Year! Has a new kitten just joined your household? If so, you’re definitely in for some super cute moments over the next 12 months. Cats are always adorable, but they’re almost impossibly charming when they’re babies. That’s actually a good thing for Fluffy’s sake, because baby cats are also super feisty. A London, ON veterinarian suggests some resolutions for people with mischievous kitties in this article.

Offer Lots Of Toys

First things first: toys are an absolute must for playful cats. Kitties do have their own tastes here, so offer your furball a variety, and see what she likes best.

Take Time To Play

Our feline friends are very playful by nature. Running, pouncing, and rolling around generally looking a bit silly can be a great way for Fluffy to get her daily workout in. Chasing after catnip mice, elusive red dots, and the occasional dust bunny also offer your kitty mental stimulation, which is great for her mind.

Provide Stimulation

Playing shouldn’t be the only form of amusement Fluffy gets. She’ll also benefit from having an environment that offers some entertainment options. Window seats, kitty furniture, non-toxic plants, and background noise, such as TVs or radios, can all help with this.

Teach Good Manners

Kitties are hunters by nature, so it’s only to be expected that they try to practice their ‘lion’ skills on us. This is cute in kittens, but it’s best to nip that habit in the bud. It’s definitely not cute for a full-grown cat to think of her human as a scratching post. When your feline pal tries to bite or scratch you, tell her No in a firm, disapproving tone. Don’t punish her, though: that may make her feel threatened, which could make her be more aggressive. Direct your furball’s ‘cattitude’ towards toys you control from a distance, such as wand toys and laser pointers.

Pay Attention To Fluffy

This one actually applies to anyone with a cat. Pay lots of attention to your frisky feline, and spend time with her every day. The more you interact with your kitty, the more interactive she’ll be with you. This is also important for building and strengthening that special bond between you and Fluffy.
